Parent Involvement Creates Positive Changes

ABC Dannemora for case study

ABC Dannemora proudly received a Pā-Harakeke (Gold) Healthy Heart Award on Valentine’s Day from the Heart Foundation, which is a result of their hard work and commitment to creating a heart-healthy environment.

Since joining the programme last year, the early learning centre has promoted healthy eating and introduced new sports and resources to keep their tamariki healthy and fit.

The teachers and children have found some fun and exciting ways to learn about healthy eating and being physically active. For example, they have had a gardening day, played shop with healthy foods and completed an obstacle course.

The centre's vision aligns well with the Healthy Heart Award with a key focus on making positive changes for both the children and their whānau.

To celebrate the Healthy Heart Award the centre organised a special sports day for both children and parents and also shared a healthy lunch provided by whānau.

“We are committed to continuing to support children’s developing ideas of physical activity and healthy eating, which we strongly believe will lay the foundations for healthy habits – today and in the future.”
